About us

Transforming
lives

Skye Farm is one of five camp and retreat centers owned and operated by the Upper New York Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church. Camp & Retreat Ministries is led by staff and volunteers, supervised by The Executive Director of Camp & Retreat Ministries and overseen by the Committee on Camp & Retreat Ministries.

Our mission & beliefs

Growing in our relationship with God,
Being the body of Christ within the world, and
Living in accordance with the example of Jesus Christ by:

  • Engaging, equipping and empowering local churches to be in ministry with and to our Global Neighborhood;
  • Encouraging and developing leadership within the laity and clergy that is diverse yet united by our love for Christ; and
  • Building relationships with our neighbors, particularly with those who have been disenfranchised by mainstream society.

We make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world through welcoming the stranger and sharing the love of God for neighbor, stranger and Creation, so that all grow into their call to live as followers of Christ.

John Wesley and the early Methodists were particularly concerned about inviting people to experience God’s grace and to grow in their knowledge and love of God through disciplined Christian living. They placed primary emphasis on Christian living, on putting faith and love into action. This emphasis on what Wesley referred to as “practical divinity” has continued to be a hallmark of United Methodism today. We invite you to learn more about our rich theological heritage.

A History of
Life-changing Ministry

In 1942 three men – Luther A. Brown, H. Elliot Chaffe, and C. Walter Kessler – sat on a big boulder near the outlet of a beautiful lake that was nestled among the majestic Adirondack Mountains and reflected on the glorious green of the forest. What if such a place as this could be used to inspire boys and girls with the same awareness of God that they felt? Surely this was the ideal spot for a Christian adventure camp.
